ANTIQUE 1905 LYON & HEALY CHICAGO LUTE MANDOLIN BOWLBACK COLLEGE LINE TATER BUG

Description

Up for auction is a beautiful LYON & HEALY Bowl back Mandolin. This mandolin is a College Line, Style 2004. I believe this line was made between 1905 and 1908. The tailpiece is an ornate scalloped shape and has all of its prongs, and in very solid condition. The tortoise shell pick guard displays very nicely as well. The tuners, bridge, and nut look to all be original.
One tuner is missing and there is a slight crack on neck but it is still solid and does not affect function.
It has a beautiful wood inlay around the tops boarder, and around the sound hole. There is ware to the finish mostly on the backside.
Everything on it is tight, solid, and in good sound condition. The strings sit off the bottom fret 3/16". It will need to be restrung.
The neck has mother of pearl dots inlays.
Mandolin measures 23.5” by 8” wide.
There is a minor split under the one string but it looks to be on the surface. A bit of inlay on the back is missing and there is a minor crack in the veneer on the underside.
