Description
For sale is a cute little portable radio from MOTOROLA, Model 5A5, Serial number 103629, from 1946. It can run on A.C. or D.C. current, 117 volts. It was left behind in the radio "collection" of my late father, who loved radios!! He was an active and avid HAM radio operator for 73 years, was an Army Signal Corps Radio School instructor during the War, and was a radio and other electronics serviceman for much of his life. This radio was left in his "collection," stored in a dry, smoke-free home. I have not tested the radio (as Dad advised me NOT to power up anything with tubes!), and am selling it as found. We did remove the power cord, however, as it was old and "crackly," and not even worth shipping. I will enclose the plug, so that can still be original when you replace the cord, if you want. The leather handle is cracked, but intact. I understand from notes on line that this was one of the very first portables ever made... now 75 years old!!
The front comes down to reveal the speaker, the station selector and the volume knobs. The back comes down to reveal the storage section for the power cord. Then, there is a cloth pull tab on another door, to open the compartment for the battery. There is a cloth strap to trap under the battery so that you can pull it out with the strap. A very clever little radio!!
I hope that this is a radio that you would love to fix up for
your
collection!!
Thanks for looking here!!
